Orthodontics
Calgary, Alberta Dentist
If you have crooked or misaligned teeth you might be an excellent candidate for orthodontics. When left untreated, misaligned teeth can lead to more serious dental issues down the road. Orthodontic treatment employs corrective appliances such as braces and retainers to straighten your teeth and restore your bite to its proper position.
Calgary dentist Dr. Mehbs Ali has made orthodontics one of the primary focuses of his practice. He regularly treats children and adults with crooked or misaligned teeth, helping them achieve a proper bite and a beautiful smile. Dr. Ali generally tries to start orthodontic treatment as early as possible with children, and will use appliances while the jaws are still growing. This helps align the upper and lower jaws in order to prevent the development of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) down the road.
Neuromuscular Orthodontics
Dr. Ali takes a slightly different approach to orthodontics. He uses a technique called neuromuscular orthodontics that is focuses on figuring out the proper position of your teeth in relation to the muscles and jaw. It is similar to neuromuscular dentistry, which works to return your bite to its ideal resting position. Neuromuscular orthodontics uses braces and wires to move your teeth into this ideal bite position.
At your initial neuromuscular orthodontics visit, Dr. Ali will use transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and the K7 system to determine your ideal bite position. He will then fabricate an orthotic device that you will wear for approximately three months before your braces are applied. The orthotic device will serve as a guide for where your teeth should be. Once your bite is properly aligned, Dr. Ali will use braces to fine-tune the positioning of your teeth.
Invisalign
Dr. Ali also offers Invisalign® treatment for adults who prefer an alternative to traditional metal braces. Invisalign straightens your teeth using a series of clear plastic aligners that are virtually invisible to others. At your initial consultation, Dr. Ali will discuss this option with you and let you know if you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign. Before your first visit with us, it is a good idea to prepare a list of questions about orthodontics to help you get the answers you need and make the optimal treatment decision.
