A clean mouth is a healthy mouth. At the Calgary family dentistry office of Dr. Sahra Kanji, we promote excellent dental hygiene as the cornerstone of good oral health. If you are following through with diligent brushing and flossing at home and visiting our office twice a year for professional teeth cleanings, you will greatly reduce your risk of developing serious oral health conditions down the road.
At-Home Dental Hygiene
Dr. Kanji and their team believe wholeheartedly that great home care can prevent many of the tooth and gum problems we see on a daily basis. This includes brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day. Check with our Calgary dental team to make sure you are getting the most out of your home care routines. We may be able to suggest slight modifications you can use to improve the overall health of your teeth and gums.
You are never too young or too old to learn about proper oral hygiene. Dr. Kanji integrate dental education as a part of every visit to ensure you are armed with the necessary tools to properly maintain your teeth and gums between checkups.
Professional Teeth Cleaning
While your regular brushing and flossing may be removing easy-to-reach, superficial food particles, it will not keep your teeth of the plaque and tartar which ultimately leads to tooth decay and gum disease. Professional dental cleanings are powerful tools in the fight to keep bacteria at bay.
Dr. Kanji, their hygienists use special dental equipment to remove layers of plaque from tooth surfaces as well as under the gum line. It is important to undergo a professional in-office teeth cleaning twice a year to ensure that this plaque doesn’t develop into more serious oral health conditions down the road.
Your Dental Exam
Our digital X-rays are essential to the diagnosis of potentially harmful dental conditions. Your thorough exam allows us to spot visual evidence of decay and damage, and the X-rays give us an intimate view of your whole tooth. During your check-ups, we also have the opportunity to compare you previous chart notes and X-rays with your current ones to reveal any changes that have occurred since your last visit.
